    Sustainable tourism is being projected as the biggest requirement in global tourism as well as New Zealand tourism now with visitor numbers booming.
    More than five million visitors are predicted to visit New Zealand before 2024, which is more than the country's current population.
    Sustainability has become a focus for both the industry and the government.
    Tourism Industry Aotearoa chief executive Chris Roberts said that the industry is on track to meet visitor growth sustainably, but more work needs to be done.

    New Zealand expects more than five million visitors by 2024; a tourism strategy is being developed to help the industry handle the predicted growth.
    The NZ government predicts that more than half of those visitors, i.e. around 2.8 million, will be tourists.
    New Zealand is developing a tourism strategy on sustainable growth.
    Tourism Minister Kelvin Davis said that the strategy is among his priorities for the year ahead.

    According to latest tourism figures, a massive interest in outdoor activities and farm-gate visits is fuelling international tourism in Tasmania, with the island state experiencing the biggest growth in visitor numbers of any state and territory.
    The figures from the federal body Tourism Research Australia show 307,000 international visitors came to Tasmania in the 12 months to September last year.
