• Southwest plane skids off tarmac due to inclement weather

    During the rainy weather in southern California a Southwest Airlines aircraft skidded off the runway on Thursday. The incident occurred at Hollywood Burbank Airport, also known as Bob Hope Airport.
    In a statement, the FAA said Southwest Flight 278 from Oakland to Burbank “rolled off the end of runway 8” shortly after 9:05 a.m. local time. The plane came to rest in the Engineered Material Arresting System at the end of the runway, a safety measure designed to stop an aircraft from overrunning the runway. FAA safety inspectors are on the scene.
