    We were hoping for a warm day for our diving trip, so were relieved after a wet and windy night when the skies were clear and blue for our drive back to Thingvellir National Park. In the end it was the warmest, sunniest day of our time in Iceland and amazing weather for diving.
    Three different companies use the Silfra pools at Thingvellir, but I'd chosen Dive.Is as they set off earliest. Hopefully this would mean minimal disturbance to the silty river bed and therefore maximum visibility - supposedly over 100m in the clear glacial water.

    Our best view of Snæfellsjökull Volcano
    Just visible to the north of Reykjavik, the Snæfellsjökull volcano sits inside a beautiful national park. For our last day in Iceland we rented another car, this time a 4×4, to head north to the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
    It's probably doable in a 2 wheel drive car but the weather was awful, so even on the well maintained roads we were glad of the extra traction.
    Leaving Reykjavik we travelled north on route 1, stopping for a break midway at the N1 service station on the small island before Borgarnes. As with many service stations in Iceland it's a lot...
